How to Check Your New Car’s Fuel Level

The majority of people want to get last miles possible out of their fuel tanks. Over the course of the year, you might save making 2 or 3 trips to the gas station if you can squeeze an additional 15 miles out of each tank. However, a damaged fuel gauge is the biggest obstacle in the way of this. Even when you still have plenty of petrol, you can believe that you are running out of it.

You might start to worry more and more about your petrol level and becoming stranded on the road if your fuel gauge stops working. Here are a few methods you can use to monitor your fuel level if you don’t have the money to have your gauge updated or fixed.

Read in the manual
You can quickly find out how much your petrol tank can store by consulting your car’s manual. Smaller automobiles can hold 12 to 15 gallons, whereas larger cars can hold up to 18 to 20 gallons.

If you don’t have your manual on you, you may also look up your car’s specifications in the blue book. Typically, a tank of gas allows an automobile to go 350–400 miles.

Examine the odometer.
To find out how many miles you have driven, look at the odometer. Prior to traveling 300 miles, keep in mind to stop at the closest gas station to avoid running out of fuel and becoming stuck.

Use a liquid dipstick.
In the past, a dipstick could be used to monitor the fuel level in your gas tank. However, that option has been taken out by the fuel float mechanism that supports the transmitting unit in the fuel tanks of modern cars and trucks. The transmitting unit serves as a communication link between your fuel tank, which measures how much gas is in your tank, and the dashboard fuel gauge. The float may remain in a high (full) position for a longer period of time than you might anticipate depending on the gas tank design of your car. The float deflates as your fuel level drops, alerting the dashboard gauge that fuel is being used.
